Summary

Hepatitis E is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis E virus. It may cause abdominal pain anorexia, dark urine, fever, hepatomegaly, jaundice, malaise, nausea, and vomiting. Prevention of hepatitis E relies primarily on the provision of clean water supplies. HEV is transmitted from person-to-person via the fecal-oral route. In recent years, epidemic and endemic transmission of hepatitis E virus (HEV) have been reported from several areas of Asia, North Africa and central Mexico. The presence of specific anti-HEV IgM in blood samples suggests acute or recent HEV infection. The IgM antibody rapidly increases in titer over a period of 1-4 weeks post infection, and then declines to non-detectable levels within 2 to 6 months in most patients.

Principle

The EUGENE® HEV IgM Rapid Test is a qualitative, membrane based immunoassay for the qualitative detection of IgM antibody to Hepatitis E virus (HEV) in human serum or plasma.

The test utilizes antibodies including a recombinant protein HEV-Ag and goat anti-mouse IgG antibody on the nitrocellulose membrane with colloidal gold marked mouse anti-human IgM as an mark tracer. The reagent is used to detect the HEV IgM antibody in serum / plasma according to the principle of double antibody sandwich method and gold immunochromatography assay. The sample mixing up mouse anti-human IgM antibody –marker move along the membrane to the T line, and form the T line when the sample contains HEV-IgM antibody, which a positive result. Conversely, it is a negative result.
